Faire in the Grove, the largest public demo in the Portland Metro
area is coming May 4-5 to the McMennamin’s Grand Lodge in
Forest Grove, Oregon. We invite the populace of the Rivers
Region and friends to join us for a weekend of fun and community
outreach. We are planning armored combat and rapier
activities for fighters, with organized cheering sections. We
need fighters, heralds, marshals, lists and cheerleaders for combat
activities. There will be prizes for the fighting including
an overnight stay at the Grand Lodge as the grand prize for
Sunday’s Tournament.
If you practice some of the other martial arts or arts and
sciences, don’t worry, you can contribute too – we are
looking for displays of all kinds as well as live
demonstrations. Past demonstrations and displays have
included – lampwork bead making, spring pole lathe carving,
spinning, embroidery, scribal demonstrations, block print
demonstrations, card weaving, armor, archery, glass blowing,
costume, toys, weaving, table settings, cooking demonstrations and
more! Bards and
entertainers of all types are also needed! We are looking for
puppeteers, singers, dancers, musicians, storytellers, jugglers,
magicians and other practitioners of the bardic arts.
Merchant space is still
available. Traffic for this event is heavy for a faire of
this size. We usually
see 6000 people over the course of a weekend if the weather
cooperates.
