The Kingdom of Avacal and the Principality of Tir Righ invite
you to a fun week of camping, arts, sciences, tournaments and war
in beautiful Nakusp, BC.
This is also our first annual Medieval Days demo for the Village
of Nakusp. The demo will happen on Sat/Sun August 1-2. Please come
and show modern visitors the wonders of the SCA and the aspects of
medieval life that you enjoy. Non-SCA vendors will be joining our
merchants for the demo. There will be a tavern on site as well. The
War will take place on the weekend during the demo. Many fun
activities for the demo including a fashion show are being
planned.
UPDATE: There will be NO open flame campfires,
fireworks, tiki torches, sky lanterns, burning barrels, burning
cages, air curtain burners and binary exploding targets as
per the BC wide open fire ban restrictions. At this point, the
rules allow us to use camp stoves, braziers and barbeques that use
gas, propane and briquettes. We will let you know if this changes.
There will be no smoking (including e-cigs) allowed on
site, however we will set up two designated areas on the
access roads into the site (both from the SCA side and the public
side) with a bucket of sand for your cigarette butts. We understand
this may be an inconvenience for those of you who smoke and
appreciate your consideration of everyone’s safety by walking a
little bit to imbibe. This is not the first time we have camped
with an open fire ban and we trust that everyone attending will
take the usual precautions to ensure we have a safe event. For this
we thank you and look forward to welcoming you to the war in a few
short weeks.
Artisans to run demo booths and workshops, as well as merchants,
are needed. Please register through the event website.
Volunteers can contact the event team in the area you want to
help. Specific duties will be listed on the event website.
Amenities: Potable water, porta-potties, and hopefully user-pay
showers. No electricity. Please note that there will be RV parking
but no hookups. For those who do not wish to camp, limited
accommodation can be found in Nakusp (check the event website for links).

fire ban rules that may be in effect.
DIRECTIONS:
Coming from
Calgary:
- Take the Trans Canada Highway West until you reach
Revelstoke. - Just outside Revelstoke, turn left onto Highway 23S and
continue until you reach the Shelter Bay Ferry (roughly 50 km). A
good idea is to wait in Revelstoke and have a bite or something
until 15 past the hour, giving you 45 minutes to get to the ferry
terminal 50 km away, which departs hourly. - Shelter Bay Ferry departs hourly from 5 AM to
midnight; click here for the schedule. - Peak season may involve waiting one or more sailings (or none),
depending on the time of day. There is a park there, and in August,
swimming is lovely. Be aware though, and bring something to pass
the time. - Depart the ferry and continue south along Highway 23S for
roughly 45 km until you reach the SCA entrance. - The SCA entrance will be on the left, at 2781 on Highway
23S - Follow the signs
- If you have reached the turnoff to the Nakusp Hotsprings, you
have gone too far; turn around and go back a kilometre or so.
Coming from
Vernon:
- Take highway 6 (goes through Lumby) east for approximately
135km over the Monashee Pass. - The Needles Ferry departs on the hour and half hour from the
East side, and on the 15 and 45 minute marks from the West. This is
a tough one to time, but it’s not long of a wait at least. - Cross on the ferry
- Continue north on Highway 6 for roughly 50 km until you reach
Nakusp - Continue straight, right through town, until you reach our one
traffic light, which is a blinking red light at an intersection,
with Overwaitea to your left. - Turn right at this intersection and continue straight through
town past our schools for roughly 5 km. - You will depart Nakusp and go past the turnoff to the Nakusp
Hot Spring; continue for another kilometre or so. - The SCA entrance to the event property will be on the right, at
2781 Highway 23 - Follow the signs
