“Toys for Tots Tournaments”

There is traditionally a series of competitions and tournaments held at Octoberfeast to benefit the Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program.

These contests all have an “entry fee” of one new, unwrapped toy that is then donated to Toys for Tots by the Barony. This is one of the ways we support worthy causes in our community.

The winners of these competitions receive a traveling trophy (each contest has a different item; a sword, a games box, etc)  for one year until the next year’s event where they pass on the trophy to the next winners.

While these are not “Champions” and have no Court precedence, they are none-the-less proud representatives of the Baronies finest competitors.

Rapier Tournament

“All swords are sharp…”

For Oktoberfeast / Toys for Tots Rapier tournament, we all need a reminder – Swords. Are. Sharp.
Tournament format is a double round robin, best two of three (depending on number of contestants) fought to first blood. First fighter to land a hit (“draw blood”) will win that bout.
Double death is refought.
The top 8 fighters between the two rounds will fight a swiss style, single elimination where you will carry your “wounds” between rounds. This will be a single fight (not two out of three), and double death will refight at the level you start with.
Need an example? Fighter Robert is fighting Master Freddrick in the first round of the finals. Master Freddrick is able to score a killing shot to Robert, but Robert is able to take Freddrick’s off-hand in the process. Robert is done for the day, and Freddrick starts his next round without his off hand. Because swords… are…. sharp.
Make sense?

German Dessert Challenge

As part of this year’s Oktoberfeast, there will be a German dessert competition. Each entrant may enter the German medieval dessert of their choice. Each should include a brief description of the dessert item including the time period and well as a list of ingredients. Entrants are asked to provide a sample for judging as well as 10-15 portions of the dessert as the desserts will be included as a part of the feast.

Octoberfeast Arts & Science Competition

This will be a simple populace choice tournament.  Please bring whatever you are working on or just finished to share with everyone!
