I know, after 3 years you are probably tired of hearing from me. That’s okay, this is the last one you will survive. 12th Night! I will say it once more…IF YOU ARE SICK STAY HOME. Consider testing before leaving. COVID and other respiratory viruses are running rampant right now. The weather is going to be interesting this weekend. If you are coming South of Portland try to leave earlier. The goal is to be through the Portland/Metro area before 2pm. (Traffic kicks off about 2-3pm in the afternoon….then you throw some white stuff in and boom you are in traffic for the next 5 hours. (True story it happens at least once a year). Make sure to carry traction devices in your car if you do not already have studded tires. They still aren’t sure if the ice will hit Portland, or further South and by that I mean Salem. Your big ole’ truck may have 4-wheel drive, but those big ole’ trucks are the ones I usually see in the ditch on the side of the road while I tootle pass in my Chevy Traverse going 25 miles per hour.

We are aware there is an issue with the Kingdom Calendar repeating event dates.  This isn’t the fault of event stewards, calendar deputies, or seneschals.  It is be worked on.  I would hope everyone would be first to say thank you to the volunteers for their work rather than give them grief for something out of their control.  If you have questions please reach out.

The Kingdom Streaming Co-lead (volunteer and on-Site organizer)  is in search of a replacement to take over at 12th Night 2024. The job description is as follows:

Organize volunteers for On Site Coordinator, Camera Operators, Communication Operators, and Producers for Crown and Kingdom events. I.E., 12th Night, May Crown, July Cor, Sept. Crown.

Liaise with the Royals on what they would like covered beyond those four events. Some sitting Royals want any event that they attend covered when possible, others just want to stick to the main four.

Maintain event Excel spreadsheet with list of events and volunteers, track viewing numbers and report to Kingdom quarterly (or every Curia)

You can act as On Site Coordinator if you wish for any of the Big Four events or others.

As On Site lead you are responsible for

–Reach out to the event steward  and ask if Wi-Fi is available.  

–If no Wi-Fi determine if someone with a Hotspot, Starlink or unlimited data is available to act as camera operator

 –Reach out for volunteers for camera, producer and communications jobs and schedule accordingly.

–Reach out to royal court coordinator and scribe and ask for copies of the docket and of awards being given out (When it is not a Kingdom Co-Lead acting as either On Site Coordinator or Head Producer, then the Kingdom Co-lead should reach out via the official email to get this information and distribute accordingly, to make sure no one involved in the stream sees their own

Greetings from your An Tir West War Financial Committee!

The ATWW Financial Committee is looking for those interested in being Head Stewards for ATWW 2024. We are hoping to select 2 Co-Stewards, 1 from the West and 1 from An Tir that can work together to navigate each other’s cultures and expectations while planning the War jointly. If you are interested, please submit you or your teams SCA resume(s) to antirwestwarfinancial@antirwestwar.org by January 1^st 2024. This resume does not need to be comprehensive, simply a quick overview of any past events or activities you have helped run or organize in some way and any relevant modern-day experience if you would like to include it. Additionally, war stewarding experience is not required as we have the previous year’s stewards available to guide new to war stewards on how the war has been run the last several years.

We are also looking for Department Heads, deputies, trainees, and other volunteers for War 2024. We would love to see a mix of old and new leaders from the West and An Tir working together to make this War amazing! An Tir West War Financial Committee 2024

Greetings to the archery and thrown weapons communities of An Tir. At September Crown, a tournament will be held to choose my successor as Kingdom Protector.

There will be three challenges to those who vie for the Championship. The first challenge will be on the target archery field. Competitors will shoot at a variety of novelty targets in order to build up a score. The next challenge will involve thrown weapons, and will include throws of knife, axe and spear. For those competitors who need it, loaner weapons will be available. The final challenge will be on the combat archery field, and will be conducted as a standard “corridor” 1 on 1 shoot. This is done in armor with SCA legal missile combat equipment.

Each challenge course will be ranked, and those with the best overall combined rankings will advance to the finals. The format of the finals will be determined by Their Majesties at that time.

Those wishing to compete must be authorized in Missile Combat AND have an SCA membership. Please be prepared to present proof of both at the lists table.

Greetings good gentlefolk of An Tir,

The time is fast approaching for us to select Our Heirs so that the line of the Sable Throne may continue unbroken into the future. As is tradition, We shall hold Our Grand Tournament on Sunday of September Crown. Combatants and their consorts will present themselves before us in procession of reverse order of precedent Sunday morning. Challenge round to be immediately after.

We’ve heard the words of those who compete in the tournament as well as those who enjoy the pageantry, suspense, and ambiance of the tourney. To embrace those with a love of the field and those who hold dear the grandeur of An Tir’s traditional format, we have decided to hold a double elimination tournament with each round best 2 out of 3. (Note: should the entrants exceed 80, We will revert to a traditional single fight for the health and wellbeing of the fighters).

We encourage our potential Heirs to bring their most proficient fighting style, with the only prohibition that it match the legal weapons and shields guidelines per the An Tir Book of Combat.
An Tir has the richest tradition of inclusivity in the known world. We wholeheartedly support and encourage inspirational equality.
