  • Call for Submissions

    Greetings An Tir!

The Crier and Kingdom Website are looking for submissions!  What kind of submissions, you ask?  Well, there are lots of ways to contribute.

    Types of articles:

    • Events – Your local event is super fun and full of activities, tell people about the event and encourage them to join you! This can be completely separate from your official event copy.

    • Branches – Is your branch doing really interesting things?  Any big planned projects?  Tell us about them!

    • Arts – Are you making something amazing?  Tricks and tips to help others?  Things you have learned from taking on a project?  Share your love and enthusiasm with others!

    • History – Have you researched a person, event, or period of history?  Share your knowledge with an article!

    • Combat – Maybe you’re making armor, have useful hints on how to make repairs, thoughts on the philosophy of combat, or interesting how-to’s.  Others could benefit from your insight!

    • New to the SCA – Articles about being a newcomer, your experience at an event, or with getting “stuff” together for camping or garb.

    • New to An Tir – If you moved to An Tir from somewhere else, tell us a cultural anthropology story that you’d like to share with others who move here from out of Kingdom.

    • Volunteering – Officers, Champions, Baronial Coronets, Royalty; this is a great opportunity to tell others about your job and experiences!  Tell us about what it means to be an officer.  Maybe share some helpful tips you’ve learned along the way.

    • SCA Culture – Do you have a fun story to share?  Maybe some An Tir history knowledge? A fun and quirky advice column?  Share away.  These types of engaging articles are fun for everyone!

    • Much more.  If you think you have something interesting, helpful, or fun to share, please do!  Let us help you spread your information around the Kingdom. Articles can be turned into an ongoing column or series!

How long should an article be?  Ideally from a publication perspective, articles aren’t too long. Maybe between 1 and 5-7 paragraphs. Anything longer can be broken into multiple articles (part 1, part 2, etc.). We have editors who can help. Articles people have written for Baronial or Principality publications count too!

We hope you consider writing something to share with the Kingdom about your interests, in the hope that it will inspire others to learn.  Please reach out to the Kingdom Chronicler, Kingdom Webminister, or Kingdom Seneschal with any questions!

    Transcript:

The strength of Our Kingdom comes from its people, without whom there would be no Kingdom to rule.

These are Our words, spoken the day of Our coronation.

The responsibility We bear for this is moving and profound.

Our love for An Tir is immeasurable, and Our desire is for the welfare and safe keeping of Our people, through all adversity.

This is the Oath and commitment We spoke, and We will maintain this for as long as We are blessed to rule these lands.

These are unprecedented times, which lead to taking unprecedented action.

We are continuing to move forward, following conservative community safety projections, and at this time We are announcing the cancellation of events within An Tir, through the month of May.

This, of course, will include the cancellation of Our May Crown Tournament.

You can be assured, planning and preparations have already taken place with Our Seneschalate and events teams to reformat July Coronation to include the Crown Tournament on that day.

We have absolute faith in Our teams to be able to conduct this combined event with great success. We will continue to monitor the current events as We reach out to health professionals on all levels, to understand this reality we are collectively facing.

We ask you to remain hopeful, as we look toward our possible return to the community and events we all wish to enjoy, together again.

I know that many would like to know how long this will last. We are all wondering when we are going to be able to see our friends, hug our loved ones, or be able to come together in fellowship and celebration. We would like to be able to tell you exactly when this will be over, but the reality is that it will depend on each and every one of us.

The best way to minimize the impact of COVID-19 is to continue to follow public health directives.

Stay home as much as possible, limit your movements, and if you absolutely must leave home, keep a respectful distance.

If we continue to do our part, We promise you we will get through this.

As this concern develops, We will continue to reach out to you all, to speak on the state of Our Kingdom and keep you informed on what direction We will be taking to bring Our Society and Our Kingdom back together.

Through these hard times, We take great pride in seeing the collective outpouring of strength and support from Our Kingdom, for all those across the Knowne World.

The efforts taken to connect with each other through online platforms, and the innovation Our Kingdom has shown to fill the hearts of many with the love of our game, is like nothing We have ever experienced before.

We implore you to continue to take fellowship remotely with friends and loved ones, and to lead with creative and exciting new ways to share with others, as you have done.

This is what we need to hold through this difficult time, and this is key to how we will come back stronger afterwards.

But most of all, We ask you to take heart – An Tir is strong, and we will come through this to meet each other again, soon.

  • May Crown Tournament AS LV

    Greetings People of An Tir,

After continuing to monitor the ongoing efforts by the modern health authorities to combat the spread of COVID-19, the Crown and I have made the difficult decision to extend the cancellation of events and activities in An Tir through the end of May 2020.

While this impacts several local branch events, it will also affect An Tir’s May Crown Tournament. I have requested and received the needed variance from the Society Seneschal to delay the tournament until July Coronation. This is a large departure from our traditions in this Kingdom but I have every confidence that An Tir will continue to thrive despite these challenging times.

The Crown and I have been in regular communication with the Kingdom Events Deputy to make the needed adjustments to July Coronation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Barony of Vulkanfeldt and the event staff for May Crown who put in a tremendous amount of work on behalf of the Kingdom to host the event. I would also like to thank the Shire of Lionsdale and the July Coronation event team for being extremely receptive and creative with finding solutions to accommodate a Crown Tournament into an already full weekend. You all have my deepest gratitude.

At July Coronation, the Crown Tournament will take place on Saturday morning. King Christian and Queen Helene have decided not to place limits on the list entrants. However, we would like to strongly encourage participants in the tournament to pre-register in order to facilitate a streamlined and efficient start to the day’s proceedings. The victors of the Crown List will be crowned the next King and Queen of An Tir during Saturday evening court. The Kingdom Champion Tournament will replace the Squires Tournament on Sunday morning.

The schedule for July Coronation is still being determined and we will need a little time to iron out the additional details surrounding meetings and other activities. These meetings and activities will be dependent on schedule availability and the needs of the event due to these special circumstances. Please keep an eye out in the coming several weeks for more information from the event staff regarding the schedule.

Finally, we are an international Kingdom and the Crown and I are aware that there are some travel advisories in place affecting the US/Canadian border. We will continue to monitor the border status as well as the health advisories affecting the municipalities in all parts of An Tir. Future decisions regarding events will be based on the most current information available to us.

In proud service to Crown and Kingdom,

    Mistress Alianora Greymoor, OP
    Seneschal of An Tir

The Crowns of An Tir have published their own announcement regarding this difficult decision.
