Kingdom Calendar Deputy Position is Now Open for Applications
The office of the Kingdom Seneschal is now accepting applications for the position of Calendar deputy position.
The calendar deputy is responsible for maintaining the Kingdom Events Calendar. The office receives and processes all of the event submissions for Central An Tir and supports the calendar deputies in The Principalities of the Summits and Tir Righ. This position requires approximately 2-5 hours of work per week, does not require previous knowledge of the calendar, and is an excellent way to support the Kingdom and its branches.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Check calendar@antir.org email regularly, action tasks and respond to inquiries
- Troubleshoot calendar issues with event stewards and branch seneschals
- Check incoming event submissions for information and calendar conflicts
- Input information for events in the Kingdom events calendar and inform seneschal/stewards of updates. This includes creating events, checking and confirming information, creating and updating locations and publishing events to the Kingdom Calendar
- Check for EIF form submissions before due dates and update the Kingdom Calendar as needed
- Report quarterly to the Kingdom Seneschal and provide update reports for Curia
- Attend quarterly Curia meetings (online) and give synopsis of reports
- If deputy is unable to check in on email for a given time, they must inform the contingency deputy if there is one OR the Kingdom seneschal to arrange coverage

Kingdom Earl Marshal Changing Soon
It has been my honor to serve An Tir’s martial community for the past 4 years, but the time has come for me to pass this responsibility to new hands.
Their Royal Majesties have chosen Viscount Durin Oldenmoor Tjorkilskin for that role. Durin joined the SCA thirty years ago and has spent most of his time as a resident of the Barony of Adiantum. He became a sergeant in that Barony in April 1995, and continued to serve in that role until he was Knighted in January 2003.
Durin has been a senior armored marshal for over 10 years and became a junior thrown weapons marshal in 2019. He also fights regularly on the rapier field and sometimes target archery. Durin has been Baronial Marshal in Adiantum, armored MIC for Egils and other Adiantum events several times, and been co-Steward for Egils three times, as well as working on other event teams in various roles. He has served as Prince of the Summits 5 times between 2000-2017. He also enjoys contributing to the culinary and bardic arts.
In applying to be Earl Marshal, Durin said that he wanted to expand on the idea of the Knights Road Show he has done with his squires to travel and teach in other branches engaging more experienced participants in all disciplines by doing the same throughout An Tir. He also said he wanted to actively recruit fighters from under-represented backgrounds into “an unofficial think tank of sorts” to gather their ideas about how An Tir can recruit, retain, and develop martial participants who will continue the development of our sports into the future.
I’ll make another announcement in a few weeks when I officially hand over responsibility to Durin. In the meantime, he’ll be included in communications under the Contingency Deputy email.

Awards Recommendation System: Status Quick-Reference
This list of status options is meant to create an asynchronous conversation within your court team.
Having a common language around what the different statuses mean is extremely important to a well-functioning court team.

This recommendation is new and has not been verified or reviewed yet.
Verified, Royals please review
The OP has been checked for the following (often done by the Court Coordinator or Award Sifter):
- Nominee’s name has been spell-checked and corrections and pronouns have been added to the recommendation’s “notes” section
- The award has not already been given
- The AoA level was awarded before the Grant, etc.
If a different award seems more appropriate at this time, for example, because the recommendation is for a grant level award but the nominee hasn’t yet received their AoA level award, add this information to the recommendation’s “notes” section.
Approved – Please schedule
This recommendation has been approved by the Crown or Coronets and is ready to be put on the schedule for an upcoming court. Used by the Crown or Coronet.

Kingdom Webminister Officer Change
To the Crown of An Tir, Esteemed Nobility, Peers, Officers, and Populace of the Kingdom of An Tir as well as to the esteemed Society Webminister does the An Tir Kingdom Webminister, Lady Alicia du Bois send greetings.
It has been my honor to serve as your Kingdom Webminister and yet it is time for me to step aside.
When I took office, we had an outdated and custom-built Kingdom website that was difficult to update, maintain, and to generally keep alive. The first thing I did (before even taking over the job) was to analyze the old website, redesign it, and re-do the events calendar system – the most viewed and most used section of the website.
Over the past two and a half years, I revised other systems:
- The award recommendation forms giving the Principalities their own administrative control and the ability for the Kingdom to delegate awards to Principality Coronets
- I transferred the Kingdom’s document library to a version-controlled document repository and delegated responsibility to the Kingdom Officers for posting their own document revisions.
- I restructured and redesigned Our Martial Authorizations database (https://antirlists.org) which tracks approximately 11,000 authorizations of 25 different types for approximately 4,400 individuals. I reduced the quarterly report generation time from 8 hours to mere seconds.
- I created a privacy policy for our An Tir website, a new Kingdom Webminister Policy, and helped create our guidelines for online courts.
- During the COVID-19 pandemic and period of shutdown, I helped conceptualize and successfully implement ways to use technology to hold online business meetings, online courts, Baronial Investitures, and virtual events that, by necessity, have revolutionized the way we do business in this Kingdom.
- I am currently involved in reshaping the technology behind the Kingdom University of Ithra and aligning with the Principality of Tir Righ’s TUTR system to bring Ithra back to life in a 21st Century way.
During my tenure I tried to focus on the following areas:
- Teaching anyone who would listen how to update and manage websites and helping encourage new people to try these things. I have happily taught many classes related to technical (and non-technical) topics. I plan to continue this work in my new role.
- Building community around becoming a Webminister and creating a network of people who want to learn, and to help others learn.
- Protecting private information as much as possible by limiting or eliminating the areas of PII that we publish, gather, and maintain in order to separate and protect our SCA identities from our Legal ones.
- Improving access to the information scattered among a multitude of various websites related to Kingdom or branch offices, tasks, and customs to help make officers’, marshals’, event stewards’, court coordinators’, Crowns’, Coronets’, teachers’, and chancellors’ jobs easier, and to help newcomers and the general populace feel welcome and find community within the Kingdom I love. This will become my main focus in my new position.
I am sad to step down from this position “early” even though I initially extended my term until September of 2021 and fully expected to serve a full three years. However, I also know that I can be more effective and continue the work I have started in my new position as the Web Deputy on the Kingdom Web Team while giving someone else a chance to lead that team.
Lord Saito and I have been working closely together for the past 14 months and he is more than ready to fully step into this position. At this point, I am merely holding him back from it so it’s time for me to step aside.
Thank You to the Crown and the Populace for giving me the opportunity to lead this team and supporting us as you have. It has been my privilege and my absolute pleasure. I feel that I leave us all in good hands.

Due to the inability to meet in person to collect polling forms, the following branches will be conducting their baronial polls via the postal service. This information replaces previously published in-person polling information in the Crier. Email addresses for each branch’s poll will be made available for those who prefer to email their completed form. As always, any individual may submit commentary regarding baronial candidates directly to the Crown for consideration.

New Online Events Calendar
Greetings An Tir!
Over the last couple of weeks the populace has all risen admirably to the challenge of staying connected and providing opportunities to gather online. Several branches have scheduled online business meetings or social “hangouts”. Some individuals have scheduled online classes.
In order to encourage this and to provide a central, social-media-independent platform, the Kingdom Webteam has created a new Kingdom Online Events Calendar.
Online events hosted by Branches or individuals are welcome on this calendar. Please submit them using this new online event request form to have them added to the calendar. Any meeting platform is welcome (you don’t have to be using Office 365 to post a meeting here) although keep in mind that Facebook Live excludes people who are not on Facebook.

An Tir Event Cancellation Continuance
Greetings An Tir,
It is a with a heavy heart that the Crown of An Tir and I have made the difficult decision to cancel events and activities (fighter practice, socials, meetings, etc) until May 10th in keeping with the most recent recommendation from the Center for Disease Control. I know there are many of you are thinking about May Crown which is scheduled for May 15-17; the decision about that event will be made in a few weeks when we have more information.
The Kingdom’s financial committee is very much aware that these cancellations can have a tremendous impact on branches. Any branch in An Tir experiencing financial hardship may request assistance from the Kingdom. The local Seneschal or Exchequer should reach out to me (seneschal@antir.org) or Baroness Elewyn (exchequer@antir.org) to request such assistance.
I have been extremely impressed with the way An Tir has risen to these challenges that we are facing as a community with offers of online classes, contests, and meetings. We are a strong and vibrant Kingdom and can continue to build each other up as we wait to join together again.
